Actress lends voice to Remembrance installation
Getty ImagesActress Katherine Kelly has lent her voice to an art installation dedicated to the memory of the men and women of who have served in the Armed Forces.
The former Coronation Street star has helped record the names of more than 2,000 people commemorated on war memorials and in honour rolls across Barnsley, which will be "whispered" from the town's three Yorkshire Rose sculptures.
The Roses Remember installation, which runs from 7 to 14 November, will also see the sculptures lit up in red to represent poppies.
Sam Burdett, Barnsley Council's cabinet spokesperson for communities, said the "unique and powerful" tribute would ensure that "those who made the ultimate sacrifice are never forgotten."
Barnsley-born Kelly helped record the names at the Lamproom Theatre, alongside local veterans, including several councillors.
Barnsley CouncilCouncillor Stan Bryan, who was one of the veterans who took part in the recordings, said: "I found it moving and humbling to be able to play my own small part in this act of gratitude and remembrance.
"The Roses Remember is a poignant project to honour those from Barnsley who have made the ultimate sacrifice."
Burdett added: "Through every name whispered from the Yorkshire Roses, we honour not only those who served and died for our country, but also the enduring impact their sacrifice had on the people and place they called home."
The first showing of The Roses Remember will take place on 7 November at 18:30.
Between 8 and 14 November the installation can be seen and heard at 08.30 (audio only), 16.30 and 18.30.
