People living on the opposite side of the river to a football stadium have objected to a music event planned there.

The house music event is due to take place at the Gateshead International Stadium on the 30 and 31 October, with local DJ Ben Hemsley performing to about 6,000 ravers over both days.

But residents on the other side of the River Tyne have raised concerns over an entertainment and alcohol licence application made to Gateshead Council for the event.

Organiser Lab3events Ltd said it would be the third time it held an event at the stadium and previous "liaison and collaboration with responsible authorities worked exceptionally well".

Objectors raised concerns after noise from other gigs held at the stadium in September, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Newcastle City Councillor for Byker ward Nick Hartley said he was "directly affected by the noise from the site".

"Music was clearly audible from my home for significant periods of the event, continuing until 23:00, the noise was intrusive.

"This was not an isolated experience. I was contacted by numerous residents in St Peter's Basin and the wider Byker area reporting similar disturbance."

A person who lives opposite the stadium, in St Peter's Basin, said they had to "endure two days of incessant noise" while the Accelerate Festival event was held on the weekend of 25 and 26 September.

"I have already complained over that event as to how often the noise level was checked, as the decibel level was so high I had to close all my windows and doors."

In response to the submissions and on behalf of the applicant, Licence Leader Ltd stated the September events were operated with a "comprehensive system of sound monitoring and regulation" fully compliant with the guidelines and requirements.

Gateshead Council's licensing sub-committee will decide on the application on Thursday.
