CCTV released after dead birds dumped at station
West Sussex Wildlife ProtectionNew pictures have been released by British Transport Police (BTP) as part of an inquiry into 25 to 30 birds being found dead at a railway station.
The force said the pigeons were dumped on the platform and car park at Chichester station in the early hours of 3 September. It is believed the birds were killed elsewhere in Sussex.
The birds were collected by a wildlife charity and taken to a vet where X-rays found they had been struck with ball bearings. One of the birds was a racing pigeon and the owner has been informed.
New pictures released show images of a car leaving the car park between 01:30 and 02:00 BST, with BTP asking anyone with information to contact them.
British Transport PoliceSussex Police, which is investigating alongside BTP, added: "We are aware of a number of incidents of wildlife catapulting in Sussex.
"While the prevalence of reports is considered relatively rare, the Rural Crime Team and local Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been conducting hotspot patrols including plain clothes patrols, and officers are engaging with communities to raise awareness."
