Welsh first minster admits she risks losing her seat in 'knife edge' election
Eluned Morgan via FacebookFirst Minister Eluned Morgan has admitted she could lose her "knife edge" seat in the Welsh election - while using canned cocktails as props to urge voters to back Labour.
Morgan appears in a social media video published on Thursday where she claims Plaid Cymru would win "at least two seats, maybe even a third" in her constituency of Ceredigion Penfro.
She says that the "real battle is between Reform, the Tories and Labour" for the other seats, with six up for grabs in each constituency in Wales.
Recent opinion polls have shown Labour trailing in third place behind Plaid and Reform, with some suggesting Morgan could lose her seat in addition to her party losing control of the Welsh government.
The video features Morgan using canned cocktails to explain how Wales' voting system works - representing Labour with a pink can of strawberry daiquiri and the other parties with cans in their colours.
Plaid Cymru is represented by a mojito, the Conservatives by a raspberry daquiri, Reform by an espresso martini, the Greens by a pina colada, and the Lib Dems by an Irn-Bru vodka martini.
In the clip Morgan says a recent poll indicated she would win one of the six seats in her constituency, "but it won't necessarily stay that way unless you come out and vote Labour".
She adds that the "real danger is that if you don't come out, you don't support Labour you're going to get another Reform person".
A caption for the clip reads that a crucial seat up for grabs in the constituency "is on a knife edge and it could go to Labour or to Reform and the Tories."
A Plaid Cymru spokesperson said that "even Labour's own leader in Wales has now acknowledged the reality on the ground".
They said: "Labour are on their way out. This is the scale of the choice facing Wales: a hopeful, ambitious future under Plaid Cymru, or more chaos and decline under Reform UK."
A Welsh Conservative spokesperson said the "people of Wales have had enough" after 27 years of "Labour and Plaid's failed policies".
"Only the Welsh Conservatives offer a credible plan that will fix our NHS, improve standards in our schools and fire up our economy to get Wales working," they added.
A Reform UK spokesperson said: "The only way to stop another Labour and Plaid coalition, and get real change for Wales, is to vote Reform."
A new electoral system is being used to elect Wales' parliament, the Senedd, which is growing from 60 to 96 members.
Six members will be elected in 16 new constituencies.
