A virtual tour of Guernsey's capital has been launched, in a bid to help people with dementia "reconnect with cherished memories".

The free virtual experience takes viewers through locations around St Peter Port, including Castle Cornet, the harbour, the market, the library and other landmark sites.

Dementia Friendly Guernsey said the project reflects its ongoing commitment to developing innovative initiatives and Julie Bulpitt, trustee and co-ordinator, added they were "incredibly proud" to launch the free tour.

She said: "Reminiscence activities are widely recognised as being beneficial for people living with dementia."

"Seeing well-known locations can help stimulate memories, encourage communication, support cognitive activity and reduce feelings of isolation," Bulpitt said.

"However, the tour is not just for people with dementia. It can be enjoyed by families, care homes, community groups and anyone who would like to celebrate Guernsey's rich heritage and the memories associated with it."

She added: "We hope it will bring enjoyment, stimulate conversation and help maintain social and cognitive engagement throughout the winter months and beyond.

"As the days become shorter and many people find it more difficult to get out and about during the winter, it provides a wonderful opportunity to revisit familiar places, share stories and spark meaningful conversations."
