Cannabis farm equipment caused village house fire
Nottinghamshire PolicePolice have closed down a cannabis farm in Ravenshead after equipment used to power the grow caused a fire.
Nottinghamshire Police said it was called at about 14:55 BST on Friday to the scene of a fire at a house in Nottingham Road.
An illegal electrical connection had sparked the blaze, which was put out by firefighters, the force said.
Officers discovered 11 separate growing areas and more than 500 cannabis plants at various stages of growth, police added.
'Put at risk'
Det Sgt Jackie Price said it was a "sophisticated and substantial" grow, which would have made the criminals behind it a considerable amount of money.
"As so often with these enterprises, it had become a fire hazard.
"It is fortunate, given the current hot and dry conditions, that the fire did not spread further and cause more damage.
"Needless to say, neighbouring properties and families were put at risk by the presence of this grow," Price added.
The force said its investigations into the grow were continuing.
