A 66-year-old man has died after he was hit by a car outside a supermarket in Edinburgh.

An air ambulance was involved in the emergency response and landed in the car park of Tesco Extra on Meadow Place Road, Corstorphine, after the alarm was raised at about 09:10.

Pictures from the scene showed a large area cordoned off by tape tied to upside-down trolleys.

Officers said the man, who has not been named, was treated at the scene but died a short time later.
