Tribute to woman as murder inquiry launched
West Yorkshire PoliceThe family of a woman who died two days after she was found injured at a house in Huddersfield have paid tribute to her.
Lisa Smith, 33, was taken to hospital after officers were called to an address in Fernside Avenue, Almondbury, at 00:26 GMT on Friday, but died on Sunday evening.
West Yorkshire Police said officers were now treating their inquiry as a murder investigation pending a forensic post-mortem examination.
Her family said: "The kindness and love that everyone has shown us has just explained how very loved she really was and still is."
They said that in her last moments, Lisa had given hope to others in need at Christmas by donating her organs.
In a statement issued by police, her mother said: "Lisa had one final party she needed to attend to make sure she could spread some Christmas magic.
"She did what she does best by helping other families have a special Christmas until she fell fast asleep."
Gareth Brook, 34, of Fernside Avenue, was previously charged with a Section 18 wounding with intent in relation to the incident. He appeared in court on Saturday where he was was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 16 January.
A police spokesperson said: "Proceedings at court will reflect the outcome of the forensic post mortem."
