A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a 13-year-old girl suffered serious injuries in a stabbing.

Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to reports of an attack shortly before 16:00 BST on Friday near Wensley Road in Woodthorpe.

The girl was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition, the force said.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also charged with carrying a bladed article and was due to appear at Nottingham Youth Court on Monday.

Supt James Woolley said officers were supporting the girl and her family following the "traumatic incident".

"We understand the impact an incident like this will have on the local community," he said.

"I would like to reassure the public we are doing everything we can to understand the circumstances that has led to this attack."
