An MP5 submachine gun was found by police

An "incredibly powerful and dangerous" submachine gun has been seized by police.

The weapon, an MP5, was found in Brinnington, Stockport, on Friday along with a Grand Power pistol and ammunition, Greater Manchester Police said.

Det Insp Mark Graham claimed: "Friday's discovery has prevented potentially serious harm to those who work and live in the area."

No arrests have been made and investigating officers have asked anyone with information about these or other guns in the area to come forward.
