A school has taken delivery of a new minibus purchased in memory of a student who died in his sleep.

Ralph Pearce's family helped raise the money to pay for Shorefield School's vehicle in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, after his death on 26 July.

The 15-year-old Ed Sheeran fan was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and received specialist education there.

Deputy head teacher Ryan Bruce said: "The senior leadership team want to extend their heartfelt thanks to all involved in the fundraising."

The school had been fundraising for the minibus prior to Ralph's death, but said his family were pivotal after they raised more than £21,000.

Bruce added: "Their kindness throughout such difficult times has been deeply moving.

"Together with the support of family, friends, our school community and the Rotary Club of Clacton Jubilee, our new bus has been made possible."

Ralph enjoyed trips out on the school's previous bus, which needed replacing.

His parents have told the BBC they wanted to "make something good" come from his loss.

The accessible bus came complete with wheelchair spaces and tail lifts.

It meant pupils at the special needs school could access the wider community on a daily basis.

Bruce said: "Ralph will be forever remembered within our school community, his twin brother Rudi is very excited for a trip out in the new bus."
