A motorcyclist has died after a crash with a car in the west of the Isle of Man.

Gareth Underwood, 37, died at Noble's Hospital following the collision in the area of Barregarrow crossroads at about 17:55 BST on Wednesday.

He had been travelling in the direction of Kirk Michael at the time, and the road between Cronk-y-Voddey Crossroads and Douglas Road Corner in the village was closed for more than five hours as a result of the crash.

The Isle of Man Constabulary confirmed a man, the driver of the car, was not hurt in the crash and has been "assisting police with enquiries".

The force has urged people not to speculate over the crash and "respect the family's privacy during this difficult time".
