Man charged after highways worker killed on M23
Eddie MitchellA man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a highways worker was killed on the motorway near Gatwick Airport.
The 65-year-old victim from Kent was hit by a van on the coastbound M23, at junction nine for Crawley, shortly before 01:00 BST on Wednesday, Sussex Police said.
Vilius Domarkas, of no fixed address, was charged in connection with the crash and appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Thursday, where he was remanded into custody until his next hearing.
The 38-year-old has not yet entered a plea and is next due to appear in court on 6 August.
Det Sgt Rob Baldwin said: "We are continuing to support the victim's family following this tragic incident.
"The investigation remains ongoing, and we continue to encourage anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has relevant information including dashcam footage, to come forward."
