Changes to bus timetable set to come into effect

A new bus timetable is due to be introduced with the aim of making services more reliable and improving connections to key destinations.

The changes beginning 7 September in Guernsey include more frequent buses, later evening services, a revised night network, and the withdrawal of some services, said the Committee for the Environment and Infrastructure.

Routes 51 and 52 were redesigned to create an hourly town circular service, while links to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital have also been improved, said the committee.

Deputy Adrian Gabriel, president of the committee, said the changes would give passengers "greater confidence that they can depend on public transport".

The 51 and 52 services were increased from every two hours to hourly from Monday to Saturday, connecting the harbour, Beau Sejour, Les Ozouets Campus, Les Varendes High School and the hospital.

The night bus network was also revised, with all four services receiving changes to improve overnight coverage, while the N1 was extended to cover Rue Sauvage and Les Tracheries, and the N3 extended from L'Eree to serve Perelle, the south end of Vazon and Frie Baton.

Later journeys were added to existing main routes, replacing the S1 to S4 evening services, while some low passenger routes including the P2 Parish Link and Route 60 have been withdrawn, said the States.

Additional Sunday services were also added to Routes 91 and 92 during the summer season.

Gabriel said the changes followed "substantial engagement from the public" during two rounds of consultation.

"We are confident the changes will offer a service that's better suited to people's needs while ensuring they remain deliverable at no net additional cost," he said.

Stagecoach South West managing director Peter Knight said customers should check the new timetable before travelling and allow time for the updated information to be installed at bus stops.
