Plan for homes near village set for step forward

Plans for up to 180 homes on the edge of a village in Leicestershire are set to take a step forward.

Planning officers have recommended Harborough District Council's planning committee approve an outline planning application for the development on land south of London Road in Great Glen.

According to planning documents, 40% of homes in the proposed development, put forward by David Wilson Homes, would be classed as affordable.

A report prepared by council planning officers stated there would be a "substantial benefit" from the proposed development in terms of meeting general housing and affordable housing need.

The report added the council has received 199 letters of objection to the plans from residents in surrounding areas, with concerns raised the proposed development was "wholly unsuitable" for a village the size of Great Glen.

The objections also raised concerns the scheme presented "significant environmental, infrastructure, and community risks".

However, according to a report submitted to the council by the applicant, the proposed development is "sustainable".

Planning documents state that a further reserved matters planning application, containing more details, would require approval before construction could start.
