Cars set alight in arson attacks

Police are investigating two suspected arson attacks in Londonderry.

One fire happened in Ivy Mead at about 03:45 BST on Sunday following reports that two vehicles had been set on fire outside a house.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) also attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

The occupants were inside the house at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported, police said.

A second fire was reported a short time later, at about 04:10, when a car was set alight outside a licensed premises in Drumahoe Road.

Firefighters also attended this blaze and brought it under control. No injuries were reported.

Insp Hughes, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), said it is believed the two incidents may be linked.

Enquiries to establish the circumstances of both incidents are ongoing, the officer added.
