Roads closed and properties evacuated after vehicle crashes into gas pipe

Police closed a number of roads and evacuated properties in the North Ayrshire town of Kilbirnie after a vehicle crashed into a gas pipe.

Main Street between Bank Street and the roundabout at Bridgend was closed to traffic after the smash, which happened at about 10:15, and members of the public were asked to avoid the area.

A number of nearby properties were also evacuated as a precaution before being allowed to return after 14:00.

The road was also fully reopened.
