Video shows men armed with axe breaking into pub
Police have launched an appeal for information after four men armed with an axe broke into a village pub in Nottinghamshire.
The Pilgrim Fathers - which captured footage of the break-in at about 02:00 BST on Tuesday - said the group smashed through a glass window before using an axe to try and force entry into the manager's flat above the pub, in Great North Road, Scrooby.
The pub, which said on Wednesday it was open as usual, added it was "horrified" that somebody would carry out "such a violent attack" on the business, as well as someone's home.
Nottinghamshire Police said its inquiries into the burglary were ongoing.
GoogleEmily Harper, a director at Harper Inns - which runs the Pilgrim Fathers - told the BBC what took place in the early hours of Tuesday was "awful".
"Obviously it's someone's home. It's not just our business, it wasn't a break into a commercial premises, someone's entered somebody's home," she said.
"Scrooby is a very quiet village, very community-orientated and the pub plays a part in that.
"So the fact that someone's brought something so harrowing to the village is really upsetting and we really feel for our manager at the site," Harper added.
Harper said the pub had received "great support" from residents living in the village and people had reached out to the pub with information.
Police confirmed an investigation into the burglary is under way.
In a statement, the force said: "A window was smashed to gain entry to the shop, with intruders then attempting to break down a further door once inside.
"Our inquiries are still very much ongoing into this incident, so we'd ask anyone who has any information to contact the police on 101."
