A road and footpath have been left unsafe after a retaining wall collapsed in Staffordshire, a council has said.

Barriers and temporary traffic lights have been installed after the collapse on Friday, next to the A520 Cheadle Road in Wetley Rocks near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire County Council confirmed.

They will be in place while workers investigate the damage and drivers have been advised to take care if passing through the area, near the Powys Arms pub.

Councillor Patrick Allen said keeping drivers and pedestrians safe was the authority's "top priority" and he thanked people for their patience.

"When crews have identified the potential cause, and the required repairs, any necessary works should be completed as soon as possible," he added.
