Two men arrested in rape inquiry

Two men have been arrested following reports a woman was raped in Mexborough.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called at 02:09 BST on Saturday after reports a woman was attacked on Bank Street.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. Both have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Det Ch Insp Susannah Wagstaff said: "We know that news of this incident will cause concern in our local communities, but I want to reassure you that we have a team of detectives working hard to progress this investigation."

Police said the victim was receiving specialist support.
