Major delays after lorry crashes into M66 barrier
National HighwaysAll traffic has been stopped on part of M66 while police respond to a lorry crash, with drivers warned to expect long delays.
The busy section of motorway was closed along the southbound carriageway between junction one at Ramsbotton and two at Bury from about 07:15 BST.
Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to reports of a "jack-knifed" lorry that crashed into a central reservation, but no injuries were reported.
Drivers were warned by National Highways that the disruption could last until about 13:00 BST.
Lane two on the northbound carriageway was also closed and there was "significant damage" to the central reservation, National Highways said, with debris reported across several lanes.
It said the lorry had a trailer attached that was carrying a roller machine.
Jack-knifing is when large vehicle with a trailer loses traction and skids, causing the trailer to swing around and push the cab out, forming a V shape.
Police urged people to plan ahead before travelling, with reports of major traffic congestion across Bury.
