Three men have appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a man in his 30s.

Cumbria Police was called to a house on Edward Street, in Carlisle, in the early hours of 29 March, to reports a man had been stabbed.

Alex Steventon 46, of Denton Street, Connor Challinor, 29, of Sybil Street, and Leon Ingledow, 21, of Howe Street, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court via separate video links.

No pleas were formally entered in the case and a jury trial date was set for 6 October. All three men were remanded in custody.

Two of the defendants also face other charges in relation to the same incident.

Steventon and Challinor were accused of an alternative allegation of aggravated burglary.

They were also charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife.

Steventon was further accused of possessing class B controlled drug cannabis, with intent to supply it to another, on the same date.

Progress of the case will be assessed at two court hearings, on 14 May and 8 June, where pleas are expected to be entered.
