A children's play area in Beeston was closed after razor blades were found in a sand pit.

Broxtowe Borough Council said it was working with police to review CCTV footage following the discovery of 12 razor blades in the sand pit at Broadgate Park on Thursday.

The authority confirmed it expected to reopen the play area on Friday, but added the sand pit would be closed until all the sand was removed and replaced.

A council spokesperson said: "The safety and wellbeing of children is our highest priority, and we are deeply disappointed that anyone would act in a way that could put their safety at risk."

Anyone with information or who spotted something anything suspicious is asked to contact police and the council.
