Two charged after officer left with fractured skull

A man and woman have been charged after a police officer was left with a fractured skull while trying to stop a car.

Warwickshire Police said the officer attempted to stop and speak to the occupants of a car in Kingswood Road, Nuneaton, at around 15:00 BST on Sunday, when the driver drove off.

The officer, who has not been identified, suffered a fractured skull and remains in hospital in a stable condition, the force said.

Billy Thompson, 23, of Hawthorne Terrace, Nuneaton, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance.

Ellee-mai Ghaiwal, 24, of Greenmoor Road in Nuneaton, was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Thompson has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Warwick Crown Court on 23 October, while Ghaiwal will appear before magistrates in Leamington on the same date.

Warwickshire Police said a third suspect, a man from Nuneaton in his fifties, was arrested on suspicion of assisting offenders and had been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The force is continuing to make inquiries and has appealed for anyone with more information, or dashcam or doorbell footage, to get in contact.
