No body found in search for woman murdered in 1995

No remains have been found in the search for the body of a woman who was murdered more than 30 years ago, police have said.

Teresa Shephard, 26, from Basegreen in Sheffield, went missing in June 1995 and although Worksop man Peter Turner was jailed for her murder, her body has never been found.

South Yorkshire Police began excavating an area of land off Piper Lane in Aston, Rotherham, earlier this week, but confirmed on Friday that nothing had been found.

A force spokesperson added: "Teresa's family have been made aware of this update and our thoughts are with them as they continue to live with the indescribable pain of not knowing where Teresa's remains are."

Turner, formerly of Doncaster Road in Worksop, was convicted of murder in 1996 and sentenced to life in prison.

Teresa was last seen by her grandmother when she went to pick up washing at the beginning of June 1995.

She told friends on the day of her disappearance that she was catching a tram to a nearby shopping centre to meet a man for a picnic in some fields, but was never seen again.
