New hub to support young people move on from care

A new hub has opened to help young people leaving care with their housing, employment and health.

Sunderland City Council has brought together a range of services at the Stanfield Centre in Hendon.

The Reform-led authority said the hub was designed to bring partner organisations together to make it easier for young people to access help and advice "as they move towards independence".

It also offers cooking and laundry facilities and internet access, as well as hosting activities and education sessions.

A spokesperson said the hub aimed to "help young people build confidence" and "develop life skills".
