A board game invented at a kitchen table during lockdown has launched as an iPhone app.

CubeRoots Ivy is the first mobile game created by Simon Gummer from Horley.

The 36-year old, who made the app based on a board game devised by his university friend Eddy Martin, likened it to "dominos".

"It is satisfying and easy to learn, but surprisingly strategic," he told BBC Radio Surrey. "It is your next 'just one more level' game. We have never seen anything like it."

Gummer said he had the idea to make a digital version of his friend's invention after playing it a lot at the pub.

He described the launch of the game on Wednesday as "surreal", adding: "It is something we have been talking about for quite a long time.

"I suppose I am nervous as well to see how people are going to react."

Gummer, who works as a TV producer, said he had taught himself how to code to make the app.

"It's been a good challenge - something to tinker on at the weekends and in the evenings.

"I have made loads of mistakes along the way. I probably restarted about three times."

Despite the launch, Gummer said the work was far from complete and improvements would continue as players began using the app.

"It is also never finished, which is the scary bit," he said.
