Mark Cain is charged with the murder of his wife, Hannah Cain

The husband of a GP who was found dead at her home has appeared before a Crown Court, charged with her murder.

The body of 45-year-old Hannah Cain, known to her patients as Dr Hannah Terry, was found at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, on Sunday.

Mark Cain, 45, also of Fern Hill, was charged with murder on Tuesday.

Appearing via video link from HMP Norwich, he spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood proceedings at King's Lynn Crown Court. He was remanded in custody until a plea hearing on 3 December.

Steven Ball, prosecuting, said Mark Cain was accused of the murder of his wife on 3 October into the early hours of 4 October at their family home.

He said emergency services attended and Hannah Cain was found "unconscious and unresponsive".

A post-mortem examination recorded that she had sustained "blunt force injuries to the head" and "neck injuries consistent with compression to the neck", he said.

Dr Hannah Terry, as she was known professionally, was listed as a member of the practice team at Grimston Medical Centre.

She served in a pool of doctors who were regularly on call for members of the royal family nearby.

On Wednesday, her family described her as "kind, generous and loving".
