Business park to be built on edge of town
HSSP architectsPlans for a new business park on the edge of Shepshed have been approved.
The 14-unit commercial and industrial site was given the go-ahead for land west of Ingleberry Road and south of Ashby Road in Shepshed by Charnwood Borough Council on Thursday.
Shepshed councillor David Northage told the plans committee meeting that the K M Beesley Construction Services scheme would bring "much-needed" investment to the town.
Councillor Robin Popley said: "With the ongoing expansion of our community in terms of residential development, it is imperative that we increase capacity for business opportunities in the area."
The committee heard that a number of businesses had already expressed interest in taking units.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said these included Livesey Bros mushroom growers, based at Normanton le Heath, which require a unit away from their current growing site to develop new strains of mushrooms, reducing the risk of contamination and the spread of disease.
Shepshed company Industrial & Marine Silencers Ltd had also expressed interest after outgrowing any available space in the town and moving to Cossington.
