A "sick and abusive man" who repeatedly raped a woman and threatened to kill her family when she told police has been jailed for 20 years.

Farman Ali, 28, sexually and mentally abused his victim over six months between 2024 and 2025 with the help of two women - Zarina Zarina and Saadia Mohammad.

South Yorkshire Police said the victim reported the abuse in January 2025 but Ali tried to intimidate her in a bid to make her retract the allegations.

Ali, from Sheffield, was found guilty after a trial of 11 charges, including six counts of rape, and was jailed for 20 years. Zarina and Mohammad were each jailed for three years two months for their part in the offending.

Zarina, 60, and Mohammad, 43, also from Sheffield, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to a charge of controlling or coercive behaviour.

Det Const Peter Bazley said the victim had shown "immeasurable strength" in reporting the "abhorrent" abuse.

"I am thankful for the faith she put in police to secure justice and would like to thank the entire team involved in this investigation for their immense dedication," he said.

"Two decades in prison is the least this sick and abusive man deserves, and I am glad that the women who aided him in his crimes will also spend time behind bars."
