Reassurance issued over Tinsley Viaduct smoke

South Yorkshire's fire service has said smoke seen near the Tinsley Viaduct on Wednesday is from a nearby small fire and not an issue with the bridge itself.

Firefighters were called a blaze overnight but it was decided a "controlled burn" was safe.

A spokesperson said they continued to monitor the fire and that the viaduct was not affected.

They added: "Overnight crews attended a fire close to the Tinsley Viaduct, due to its location and the low risk it posed, we have allowed this to burn in a controlled manner."
