Two men have been arrested after cars were stolen from outside properties in different parts of Londonderry in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said the thefts happened in the Woodbrook, Parklands and Victoria Gate areas and one vehicle, a Renault Arkana, was later found in Bridgend, County Donegal, in the Republic of Ireland, by An Garda Síochána (Irish police).

Officers later spotted a black Mercedes, one of the stolen cars, and used a stinger device to bring it safely to a stop after a pursuit.

Police pursued a third vehicle, a white Kia Sorento, before three occupants fled and two men were arrested in follow-up searches.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, taking a motor vehicle without authority and driving when unfit through drink or drugs.

A second man, 25, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and taking a motor vehicle without authority.

The suspects remain in police custody on Monday.
