A teenage boy fell into a bonfire after being punched and knocked unconscious in County Tyrone at the weekend.

The 17-year-old was attending the bonfire in the Bradley Way area of Strabane on Saturday when he was attacked at around 22:35 GMT.

The police have commended a woman who "bravely" pulled the boy to safety.

"This was a reckless and dangerous act, an assault which has left the victim with injuries," said a spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The teenager was treated in hospital for his injuries and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They have also asked anyone who was filming at the bonfire at around the time of the attack to check their footage as it may have captured what happened.
