A senior councillor said the authority has a duty to ensure development is legally sound

An injunction preventing further unauthorised development on a patch of open countryside has been granted at the High Court.

West Berkshire Council said it applied for the injunction against 29 people or companies following recent breaches at Southway Plantation in Maidenhatch, near Pangbourne.

The two-year injunction, which allows 10 caravans to remain on the site, will remain in place until 19 October 2028 unless it is varied or discharged by the court, the authority said.

Denise Gaines, its portfolio holder for planning, said it has a duty to "ensure that development takes place in accordance with planning law."

The injunction prevents any further additional caravans or mobile homes moving onto the site, save for the 10 caravans.

Other "additional waste, hardcore or similar materials" are also banned.

The council said a breach could result in imprisonment, a fine or a seizure of assets.

The order applies to anyone who "knowingly assists or permits" any breach of its terms.
