Three arrested after police car hit with brick

Three men have been arrested after a spate of incidents, including one in which a brick was thrown at a police car.

The attack on the police car happened at about 13:00 BST on Saturday on Linden Avenue, Stourport, Worcestershire, according to West Mercia Police.

A spokesperson for the force said two men wearing balaclavas and riding a black motorbike approached the vehicle before one of the men threw a brick at the driver's window.

The officer was not injured but the wing mirror was damaged in what Sgt Ian Squires, from the Wyre Forest Safer Neighbourhood Team, described as an "unacceptable and unprovoked attack".

The incident is thought to be linked to an incident around 30 minutes earlier in Yarranton Close, Stourport, in which threats were made to officers recovering an untaxed vehicle.

Police also said they suspected the motorbike used in the attack on the police car was later involved in a crash on York Street at around 16:00.

The bike was abandoned at the scene before being recovered by police.

On Monday, two men from the Bewdley area were arrested in connection with the incidents.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, criminal damage and a public order offence.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of threats to cause criminal damage and theft of a motor vehicle. Both men have been released on bail.

Another man, aged 19, was arrested earlier on suspicion of criminal damage and theft of a motor vehicle and remains in custody.

"Fortunately, the officer involved was uninjured, but this could have been a very different outcome that could have resulted in members of the public being hurt as well," said Squires.

"West Mercia Police takes such incidents very seriously as an attack on a police officer or indeed, any other emergency service worker, is an attack on society."
