The possible closure of two care homes is to be discussed by councillors next week.

Westmorland and Furness Council is to consider the future of Applethwaite Green Care Home in Windermere and Grisedale Croft Care Home in Alston.

A meeting on Tuesday, which will be held behind closed doors, will decide whether to launch a formal consultation on the two homes.

The council said it was aware the possible closure of the facilities would be "concerning for residents, their families and staff" but said no decisions had yet been made.

"Our priority is, and will continue to be, the wellbeing of residents and the support of staff," it said.

"Anyone affected will be kept informed as the process progresses, and residents and employees will continue to receive appropriate support throughout."
