House of Keys election candidates to be confirmed

Candidates who will be standing in next month's general election on the Isle of Man will be confirmed later.

Voters on the island will have the chance on 24 September to elect their representatives in the Manx parliament for the next five years.

Contests look set to take place in each of the 12 constituencies that make up the House of Keys.

Notices of poll - which will formally confirm the candidates - will be issued by the deputy returning officer for each area following the end of the nomination, objection and withdrawal periods.

The deadline for prospective candidates to deliver their nomination papers and declaration of interests forms is 13:00 BST, followed by an hour for any objections.

Any candidate who has already submitted nomination papers also has until 14:00 to formally withdraw.

The contest will see at least eight new faces in the House of Keys following the poll.

Members of the House of Keys, known as MHKs, are eligible to take ministerial or departmental positions in the Manx government, sit on statutory boards and serve on parliamentary committees.
