Former sergeant charged with abusing position - IOPC
Getty ImagesA former Derbyshire police officer has been charged over claims he abused his position to try and form improper sexual or emotional relationships with women.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said Tarjinderjit Nizzer has been charged with eight counts of misconduct in public office following an investigation by Derbyshire Constabulary's Counter Corruption Unit.
The former sergeant is accused of contacting six members of the public and two police officers to instigate a sexual or otherwise inappropriate relationship between January 2020 and November 2024.
The 57-year-old has also been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and computer misuse.
He is alleged to have cancelled a traffic offence report and used police systems inappropriately to run checks on someone without a proper policing purpose.
The IOPC said Nizzer, who resigned from his role as neighbourhood sergeant in February, is set to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 2 October.
A spokesperson said its investigation followed a conduct referral made by Derbyshire Police on 26 February 2024.
