Security patrols introduced after car park fire

Dedicated security patrols are being introduced at all council-owned multi-storey car parks in Hull, the city council said.

It comes after the George Street car park was closed following a single-vehicle fire on 1 April.

In a statement, a council spokesperson said the new security measures were part of the authority's "ongoing commitment" to providing safe, well-managed parking facilities.

The measures would include regular patrols and closer monitoring of facilities to deter anti-social behaviour and provide reassurance to customers, they added.

The council said the car park would reopen once checks and maintenance work had been completed, and the vehicle involved in the fire removed.

Humberside Fire and Rescue said the fire, involving a vehicle on the third floor, had started to spread to the roof when crews were called at about 21:40 BST.

A spokesperson said it was quickly extinguished and no casualties were reported.

The cause was believed to have been accidental, the fire service added.
