A man has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after a fire broke out at a house in Liverpool.

It started on the ground floor of the semi-detached home in Thomas Drive, Broadgreen, just before 06:00 BST on Tuesday.

The victim, aged in his 60s, was found inside by firefighters and taken away in an ambulance, before the fire was put out by 06:30.

Merseyside Police said an investigation was continuing.
