Teen spends holidays making school play equipment

A 15-year-old has spent his summer holidays creating play equipment for a primary school.

Harry, from Whale Hill in Middlesbrough, has spent the last few weeks hard at work creating a pirate ship, a fort and a bus out of spare wood.

He has been using supplies and building materials from local traders and has worked hard to try to fire the imaginations of pupils at Whale Hill Primary School.

Harry said he has taught himself basic woodworking and it was "just nice to give back" to the local community.

"I've been using wood that they [local businesses] can't sell and some of it is as bent as a banana," he said.

"We started with the pirate ship and then moved on to the bus and fort."

Mum Emma said she was "so proud of him" and praised Whale Hill school for being a key part of the area.

"All of this has happened because of local businesses supporting him and B&Q even gave him an amount to spend to continue his projects," she said.

"Just last night a lady came round and said she thinks he is amazing and she is trying to do a collection so he can get more paint."

Dad Dave said Harry had been "quietly doing brilliant things" and thought his son deserved recognition for his dedication throughout summer.
