Boy and woman released as man's death not suspicious
Island EchoA woman and a teenage boy arrested on suspicion of murdering a man on the Isle of Wight have been released after police said the death was not suspicious.
Police said officers were called by ambulance crews to a report of a stabbing at a house in Downsview, Sandown, at about 19:10 BST on Thursday.
A man in his 50s with serious injuries died later in hospital.
Police were granted an extra extra 36 hours to question the woman, aged 47, and boy, 14, but on Sunday evening, police said they would face no further action.
Hampshire police said the pair were arrested at the scene based on the information available at the time but, as a result of enquiries, officers did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.
A statement said: "The woman and boy have this evening been released from custody without any further action to be taken against them.
"Following the man's death, a file will now be prepared for, and submitted to, the coroner."
Isle of Wight Area Commander, Supt Marcus Cator said his thoughts were with the man and his family and thanked everyone who had helped with the investigation.
"These investigations are always very challenging for those involved and the community as a whole," he said.
"All involved have helped us to further our investigation at pace and begin to achieve some answers for the man's family."
