Former RAF airman jailed for rapes and campaign of abuse
BBCA former RAF airman has been jailed for 11 years for a series of rapes and abuse of two women.
Kenny Dalgleish, who was based at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, carried out a campaign of bullying and violent behaviour - including controlling one victim's access to money, food and sanitary products.
The 38-year-old was convicted of 11 charges at the High Court in Glasgow, dating from 2006 to 2023.
Judge Lord Harrower told Dalgleish there were two sides to his character, and said "the dark side of which is only seen by those closest to you".
The court heard that for nearly four years, beginning in Dundee, he subjected one woman to verbal and physical abuse, including restricting her breathing and threats to kill her.
Dalgleish raped her on multiple occasions between April 2007 and February 2010.
He was also found guilty of six charges against a second woman between 2015 and 2023, including raping and injuring her at a flat in Glasgow.
His attacks include raping her while she was asleep, or pretending to be asleep, and when she was pregnant.
He was also convicted of domestic abuse against the woman at hospitals in Aberdeen and Elgin.
Advocate Depute Alex Prentice said both victims were seeking lifelong non-harassment orders as they had "expressed extreme anxiety for their well-being".
'Evil derogatory names'
Lord Harrower imposed an extended sentence on Dalgleish, which will mean he will be under supervision for three years upon his release from jail.
He said: "You were involved in the physical, emotional and sexual abuse carried out over many years against two women.
"This included referring to them with evil derogatory names which undermined their confidence and self-esteem.
"Your culpability is high - you repeatedly raped and carried out sexual assaults against both women over lengthy periods against the background of violence and intimidation. Some of the violence would have been degrading and humiliating."
John Brannigan, defending, said his client continued to claim his innocence.
The RAF confirmed that Dalgleish had since been discharged from the service.
He was put on the sex offenders register and subject to non-harassment orders for an indefinite period.
Faye Cook, Procurator Fiscal for High Court sexual offences, said: "What these women experienced was deeply traumatic, and the evidence presented in court showed a clear pattern of domestic abuse and serious sexual offending.
"I want to recognise the courage shown by both women in coming forward and giving evidence. Speaking out is never easy, and their strength has been crucial in securing these convictions."
