A police officer in Staffordshire has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting women.

The county's force said Alex Trusler, 36, from Burntwood, admitted four counts of sexual assault on a female in 2022 and 2023 at Northampton Crown Court on Friday.

Trusler, a response officer in Cannock, was suspended in September 2023, as soon as the allegations were reported, police said, adding that he would also face misconduct proceedings.

He is due to be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on 8 September.

Deputy Chief Constable Caroline Marsh said his actions had been "a fundamental betrayal of the standards every member of Staffordshire Police is expected to uphold".

She added: "The moment these allegations were reported, he was suspended and a thorough investigation by our Anti‑Corruption Unit began.

"His guilty pleas reflect the seriousness of his behaviour, which has no place in policing."
