A rapist who threatened to kill a teenager after assaulting her in a secluded area of Tunbridge Wells has been jailed for more than 10 years.

Italian national Rocco Minafra, from Tonbridge, called his victim over and took her to a bench on Tunbridge Wells Common between 20:00 BST and 21:00 on 18 October 2025, before pulling her down a slope and attacking her.

At Maidstone Crown Court, 47-year-old Minafra was given a prison sentence of 10 years and nine months and issued with a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order after being found guilty of rape, making a threat to kill, and three counts of sexual assault.

Kent Police praised the victim's bravery following sentencing.

Det Charlene Brent of Kent Police said: "This was a terrifying and distressing ordeal for the victim who was assaulted by a stranger.

"I'd like to commend her bravery in reporting the offence, despite Minafra's threats towards her, and supporting the investigation.

"She provided key details to help identify the suspect and even went back to the scene with officers so they could find the exact location, which would have been especially hard for her.

"Despite Minafra trying to deny the offences, the diligent work from the investigation team proved he was lying.

"I hope the victim can find some form of closure knowing he is behind bars."
