Deputy Yvonne Burford has taken the position of vice-president on the committee

Deputy Yvonne Burford has been elected as vice-president of the Policy and Resources Committee (P&R).

It follows the resignation of Deputy Gavin St Pier, who stepped down after he and his wife were arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and offences under the Reform Law.

Guernsey Police said the arrest related to the same investigation which involved the couple being arrested in December last year on suspicion of harassment. St Pier told the BBC earlier in May: "We were released without charge. We unequivocally deny any wrongdoing."

Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, P&R president, said: "The committee will benefit from Yvonne's broad experience and sound judgement as vice-president."

The States of Guernsey said Deputy Charles Parkinson has been announced as the treasury lead for the committee.

De Sausmarez said: "I'm also very pleased that Charles is taking the role of treasury lead, which is a natural fit given his significant professional expertise and political background in this area, most notably of course as a former treasury minister."
