A teenage French tourist has been flown to the UK with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Jersey, police say.

The collision happened on La Route des Genets, just outside the Les Ruisseaux Estate between 17:10 and 17:15 BST on Wednesday.

States of Jersey Police said the incident involved a grey Honda CRV, driven by a 70-year-old man, and a 14-year-old female pedestrian who suffered serious head injuries.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and said the pedestrian was in a serious but stable condition after being flown to Southampton for on-going medical treatment.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was not injured and no arrests have been made as the incident was still under investigation.

The pedestrian was treated on scene by paramedics and transported to Jersey General Hospital, before being flown to the UK due to the seriousness of her injuries.

The force said the car was believed to have been travelling eastbound along La Route des Genets towards the direction of St Aubin's prior to the collision.

It appealed for anyone who saw the car before or after the incident, or who witnessed or heard the collision to come forward.
