Partnership to use power of sport to help pupils
GettyA secondary school aims to support pupils' mental health through the "power of sport" and physical activity, as part of a new partnership.
Moreton School, in Bushbury, Wolverhampton, is set to join forces with charity Sport in Mind (Sim) from September.
It will include coaching sessions, wellbeing activities and assemblies about mental health, the charity said.
"Mental health support is not an add-on, it is central to everything we do to help our students thrive," school head Scott Williams said.
The initiative comes after the school set up a partnership with the Paris-Germain Academy UK, in 2024.
The link with the academy acts as a regional hub for its work to develop young football players, both on and off the pitch.
Sim said a key feature of the programme would see the school's "Paris Saint Germain Rising Stars" undertake the ASDAN personal development programme.
The programme sees them become wellbeing champions for fellow students and pupils in local primary schools as part of Moreton's outreach work.
Sim said the training would give them "the knowledge, confidence and practical skills" to become peer.
'Empowering young people'
Williams added the partnership was a "real statement of intent".
"Working with Sport in Mind gives us a structured, evidence-based approach, and developing our Rising Stars as peer advocates for wellbeing is something we are genuinely excited about," he said.
Neil Harris, head of Sim, said: "We know that good mental health is fundamental to helping young people achieve their potential, both inside and outside the classroom.
"This partnership with Moreton School reflects our shared commitment to creating supportive environments where students can build confidence, resilience and positive wellbeing through sport.
"By empowering young people to support one another, we're helping to create a lasting culture of mental health awareness that will benefit the whole school community."
