Christmas market plans unveiled for city centre

Plans for the Christmas market in Leeds have been announced by the city council.

This year's event will return to City Square on 19 November - hosting 60 vendors from across the region alongside two new bar areas.

The 400-sq-m ice rink will also return this year, offering daily adult and children sessions.

Councillor Salma Arif said the market and other festive events were "hugely popular", attracting tens of thousands of people into the city centre.

The council said about 200 Christmas trees will line the square, while a new Elf Hunt trail will be on offer for kids.

This year's market will feature a selection of cabins operated by Real Markets Yorkshire, with a rotating selection of artisan traders.

The stalls and facilities this year include street food, a Bavarian-styled market alongside a bar and rides, including the big wheel in Victoria Gardens and the Starflyer in Millennium Square.

There will also be live music.

The Leeds Christmas Market will open from 19 November and run until 23 December.

The ice rink opens the same day and shuts on New Year's Eve.
