Crews leave scrap fire that sparked huge smoke plume

A large fire at a recycling centre involving scrap metal and electrical items has been put out.

Crews in 10 fire engines were called to the site at Candys Lane in Corfe Mullen, east Dorset, shortly after 02:30 BST on Tuesday. It had sent a large plume of smoke visible in the area through much of the day.

Residents were asked to keep doors and windows shut as smoke drifted across the area, and drivers on the nearby A31 were warned that smoke could affect visibility.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews left the scene at about 21:00. It added that a follow-up inspection on Wednesday morning found "no concerns" and a fire investigation was set to be carried out.
